To Dreamers Alike
Saturday afternoon. 4 pm. It is a glorious day outside and yet I am sitting in front of my computer. Why, you ask? Well, my ‘inbox’ is full of unanswered emails so thought better get cracking! Clearly I am procrastinating since I am writing a post. I did get to enjoy the beautiful Los Angeles day this morning when I walked the dogs along the beach. My yorkies go nuts for sand and water. Perhaps they were some type of sea creature in another life.
The beach always makes me think of when I first moved to LA. So many people told me, ‘don’t live by the beach, you will never get anything done’. Not live by the beach? Say what? This is the best place to live- unless you just really dislike the ocean (what on earth is wrong with you?)! I will be the first to admit, in over 3 years of living here, I have never once swam in the ocean. Call me a Maui snob but the ocean in LA just does not compare to the beautiful ones in Hawaii. I do really want to try surfing this summer here but the downfall is a wet suit is required. Guess I will just need to suck it up! Those same people who told me not to live near the beach were also the ones who have been in LA way too long and have not accomplished much. Hate to say it, but I don’t think that is the beach’s fault. Living by the water gives me a sense of calmness.
If i am ever having a bad day, I just grab the dogs and head 10 mins down the road and walk along the water. You can’t continue to have a bad day when you are starring out to sea… at least in my opinion anyway. My new job is working right on the water in Malibu and there is something so peaceful about it. I’ve seen so many dolphins at work and every time it makes me smile from ear to ear. Just one of the many reasons I live in Los Angeles.
The other reason I live in LA, which is the obvious one, is the fact I am an actor. I am now a writer as well thanks to my Web Series, Roommates. To keep you updated on that project, it is 1/2 way there. I watched some edited footage the other day and it is slowly but surely all coming together. Yeah! Excited for the final project. Then it will be submissions for festivals and then hopefully more funding to make more episodes!Us actors always go through ups and downs in the industry. Having a ton of auditions, booking jobs and then notta thing for months. It can get discouraging but I try and maintain a positive attitude regardless.
Yesterday I had a very cool thing happen to me, which lifted my spirits. So turns out my blog does come in handy. My friend Mecca works for The Jones Report LA and has been posting my blogs on the site. Well The CBC Radio show, The Current with Anna Maria Tremonti, (http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent) called me yesterday to tell me she was “blog surfing” and came across the Jones Report and saw my blog, Confessions of a Canadian Actress. She decided to give me a call with regards to the new piece she is doing. I was on the phone with her for over 30 mins talking about Canadian women in Film living in “Tinseltown” and the challenges that come with it. So interesting and so crazy.
The piece will air online on Wednesday, May 22. Not sure what time but it will be on there for a while so please check it out. It is the first time I have ever been interviewed for anything and was a great experience! Here is to things looking up…
